Introducing the CIVIC Project

We are delighted to introduce the CIVIC project, co-funded by the European Union under the LIFE programme, managed by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA).

Low waste separation and recycling rates, limited traceability, and a lack of incentives for proper sorting remain key challenges for sustainable waste management, contributing to unnecessary environmental impacts.

CIVIC aims to address these challenges by combining IoT-enabled smart waste collection, AI-powered packaging identification and Pay-As-You-Throw (PAYT) incentives to encourage better waste sorting, increase recycling rates and improve waste traceability.

The project Kick-Off meeting took place online on 31 July. The 5 partners met to align on shared objectives, key milestones, and next steps for the collaboration over the 33-month project duration.
